List of September 11th Events Planned Locally

The following is a list of local 9/11-related events:

SF 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb: A fun family event where you can pay tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters of FDNY and all others who lost their lives 10 years ago trying to help those in need. The climb is for uniformed members only. It is a non-competitive climb. Whether you climb all 48 stories, do a partial climb or make the climb twice, it should be a great way to remember and never forget. Families can volunteer or just watch in support. There will be apparatus parked near the Transamerica Building for kids and a BBQ and entertainment afterwards. For more info go to www.sf911msc.com/

Bay to Brooklyn Ride: On August 2, 2011 Darrell Sales, Darrell Dean Sales, David Lombardo and Fred Belligan left the Bay Area heading to Florence, Oregon. From there they will head east on a journey to Brooklyn. Donations may be made by sponsoring the entire ride or individual legs and will support the Santa Clara Firefighters Foundation.

Redwood City 9/11 Stair Climb: We are asking 343 Firefighters from all over: Paid, Volunteer, Retired and Cadets to climb 110 floors (untimed) wearing a name panel of one of the 343 fallen FDNY. Ride for 9/11: The Los Angeles Firefighters Athletic Organization will be cycling across the United States to honor those whose lives were lost 10 years ago on September 11, 2001 and those who continue to fight for our freedom and safety. The Ride For 9/11 commenced July 24, 2011 in Downtown Los Angeles and end in New York City at the FDNY Firefighters Memorial on September 9, 2011. The Ride for 9-11 will be raising money for two very special charities, The Leary Firefighter Foundation and The Wounded Warrior Project.

Sacramento's Annual 9/11 Memorial Climb: The Sacramento Area Firefighters would like to invite all sworn firefighters to participate in Sacramento's annual 9/11 Memorial Climb. This event is being held to honor the 343 Firefighters of FDNY that paid the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. This year's climb will be held at the "Renaissance Tower" located in downtown Sacramento at 8 a.m. on Sunday September 11th. Participants will place the name of a Fallen Brother (over their own name) on the back of their turnout coat and carry it 110 floors to the roof. All proceeds from this event will benefit the FDNY Widows and Orphans Fund.

The 9-11 Memorial Run/Walk: The 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk will take place to give those who vowed to “Never Forget” the opportunity to exercise that vow. The 5K will start at 9:11 a.m. on 9/11, and wind through Downtown Sacramento. At the finish of the 5K, American flags will be handed to runners as they cross the line. Each flag will represent an American who lost their life on 9/11/2001. Runners will carry the flag they are given and will place it in the grass in the “Tribute in the Park” at Capitol Mall between 5th and 7th streets. When the 9/11 5K Memorial Run/Walk is complete, nearly 3,000 flags will stand united in the grass as a tribute to those that were lost. A Tribute in the Park remembrance event and concert by Anna Nalick singer/songwriter of the hit single "Breathe (2 a.m.)" will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Solano County Countywide Agency Memorial Service for 9/11: Multiple agencies throughout Solano County will join together to have a memorial service for 9/11. The service will be from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. The guest speaker will be a retired FDNY firefighter that responded to the attacks. An open house with equipment from all the local agencies will be held after the service.
