2013 Fire Season Begins in Contra Costa County

pinolewildlandburnContra Costa County Fire has started full wildland responses effective today, Tuesday, April 30th as fire season has begun in Contra Costa County.

The 2013 fire season is upon us. This winter saw below average rainfall for California and the County. Recent hot weather, coupled with wind events, has lead to premature drying of the light fuels and lower than normal fuel moistures in the Medium and Heavy wildland fuels. Early brush fires in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties demonstrated rapid rates of spread and spotting already this year. Anticipate the potential for extreme fire behavior throughout this fire season.

CAL FIRE has begun their early fire season staffing with three Type 3 engines (off-road engines), one dozer, six hand crews, and one helicopter (water dropping only).
